DIY Sun Hat ~

DIY Sun Hat // Customize a cute sun hat from Thrift Town by buying some decorative trim that can be attached one of three ways! I have two hats I’ve found at Thrift Town over the years that are absolutely timeless! They ranged in price from $3.99 -$7.99 which was a GREAT deal considering this one that I have as inspiration was on sale for $89. ( Pssst – I did not buy at full price, no way!!) Thrift Town is the best route to go, definitely worth every penny. The trim only cost me about $3 a yard.

  1. Sew the trim on. I would do this with a needle and thread by hand if you want the trim to be more permanent. If this is what you’re more comfortable with then go for it!
  2. Glue the trim on with fabric glue. This is an easy way for those of you, like myself, who don’t have the patience or skill to sew quite yet.
  3. Safety pin the trim on in order to make the trim temporary. Safety pin the trim on the hat, but do it through the inside of the hat so that the pin doesn’t show. This way you can always change up the trim on your hat and not commit to one pattern. Pinning in multiple spots might help to secure the trim.

Here are a few decorative trimmings I found! Add these to your thrifted hats and you have yourself a $10 hat that could totally pass as a $89 hat!!!
