Today, I went to our store in Carmichael, California to help them get ready for our BIG Book Sale coming up this Friday, July 13th! Right when I arrived, I saw our awesome crew member, Michael, bringing out an entire cart of New Arrival books! YEA!
Our Book Department is HUGE – check it out! This is just ONE wall:
Here are a few fun theme book displays I quickly put together during my tour through our book department:
Young Readers: I found some classic children’s novels including A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe (adapted by Saviour Pirotta) and the first three books in the thirteen-book series A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Most of these books were under $2 regular piece and will be half off during our Book Sale!
Baby Books: Baby Books are so colorful and playful! What a fabulous way for babies to start learning about animals, shapes and the world around us! Most of these books were priced at $.049-$0.99 and will all be half off during our Book Sales.
Wild Side: Nature books are fabulous! How fun for young minds to read books about dinosaurs, turtles, bugs and more! Most of the books we under $2, so less than $1 during our Big Book Sales!
Disney Classics: We often have entire sets of Disney Classics, Dr. Seuss, and even Harry Potter! So fun when you find so many altogether – a perfect way to build a child’s library! Each of these books was only $0.69 – so $.35 each during the Sale! What is your favorite Disney Classic? I think Lion King is at the top of my list!
Cookbooks: Why oh why do they make those cover photos look so delicious? Made me very hungry just looking at these fabulous cookbooks! The Indian Cooking cookbook was very intriguing and fascinating and the kid’s cookbook is super fun for a summer activity in the kitchen! Most cookbooks range from $1.99-$3.99 regular price, so $1-$2 during our big sale! We truly have some fabulous cookbooks!
Hardcover Novels: There is always something so wonderful about hardcover novels. Thrift Town carries all kinds of books by some of the best selling authors such as Sidney Sheldon, Jodi Picoult, John Grishman and many more! And of course, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is a MUST read! Most of the hardback books range from $2.99-$3.99! Time to stock up at our big half off sale!
Summer Reads: For many, it is pure bliss to dig into some of those fabulous reads during the lazy days of summer! Whether you have your toes in the sand or hanging out on a blanket in your own backyard, Summer Reads provide the ultimate escape! $1.99-$2.99 is the typical price range for these summer escapes!
These are just some quick examples of the type of incredible books you can find at Thrift Town! Of course, we have business books, resource books, coffee table picture books, travel books, parenting books, religious books, self-help/motivational books and tons more!
Oh! And I also found a few cute book racks and bookshelves in our furniture department as well!
So . . . What do researchers have to say about the importance of summer reading?
“… the best predictor of summer loss or summer gain is whether or not a child reads during the summer. And the best predictor of whether a child reads is whether or not he or she has access to books.” – Allington, Richard L. and McGill-Franzen, Anne “Bridging the Summer Reading Gap,” Scholastic Instructors
And did you know books are not just for reading? Yup! Many clever DIY crafters have thought of some wonderful upcycle ideas for recycled books. Check out Thrift Town’s “Books Aren’t Just For Re-Reading!” Pinterest Board and be inspired:
See you at our Big Book Sales! Happy Summer Reading!
